…about Listy McListerson {our home to-do list}.

as I’m sure many of you know, I’m a big fan of John and Sherry (and Clara and Burger the dog!) over at Young House Love. i love following their journey as they renovate and leave their personal touch on their home (they’re on home #3 now!). they call their master to-do list for their home their Listy McListerson, and a la YHL, here’s our {updated} Listy McListerson for our home.

while overall, the layout of our house is conducive to the type of living we like to do – big communal spaces, so that our family (both our little family and our extended families at holiday time) can spend time together in one room. the tradeoff for larger communal spaces, of course, is smaller bedrooms, but since we aren’t people who love to hang out in our bedroom (other than to sleep!), this arrangement works well for us.

overall look + layout of our home

– install crown molding in all rooms

– replace standard light fixtures/fans in all rooms in favor of lanterns and chandeliers

– eventually add an addition to the house {off of the upstairs living room} that includes a den/playroom on the upper level {to house the piano/kids’ toys + to act as “homework central” when kids are in school; install wainscoting and a coffered ceiling and install DIY sliding barn door opening}; addition on lower level will feature a fourth bedroom {located off of the downstairs family room}

front yard

– add colorful landscaping in a few areas in front

– add a few planters in front of the garage and a new door mat

side/back yard

– add an invisible fence for Wyatt the dog

living room {upstairs}

– install a DIY window seat/banquette (with hidden storage for toys and other belongings) with an upholstered cushion in front of the window
