When J and I were planning our wedding, we, like many other couples, were smitten by the idea of a photo booth, so we DIYed one using plywood that we hinged together (for portability). We cut a hole in the plywood (big enough to hold an open picture frame) and covered the plywood with wallpaper. It was a big hit with our guests and with us!
We also used an open picture frame as a prop for our wedding photos, as seen below:
Since then, I’ve started collecting open picture frames; I most recently used them in Lionel’s first nursery to display his name above his crib:
When we moved into our new home and decided to paint a chalkboard wall in our kitchen, I knew that I wanted to hang some open picture frames to add a little more fun to the wall.
After a quick coat of paint (I used BM’s White Dove – the same color as our DIY farmhouse table – and BM’s Blue Lake – the same color as our front doors), our chalkboard wall has a little more life! Take a look:
So far, we are loving our chalkboard wall; L loves drawing on it, and it gives me a great place to make lists and get my creative spirit on! We would love any tips to keep the chalkboard wall looking crisp and fresh black – any ideas from veteran chalkboard users?

love the frames with L’s name above the crib!
I think I remember a teacher who loved to wash her board every night with a wet sponge, but I don’t know how that would work with paint. I’m sure there’s something out there with the chalkboard wall craze!
