I believe that as a business owner, your brand voice is your superpower, and I’ve got two key hacks to help you discover and use your authentic voice online.
But first, hear me on this: your voice is your unique way of serving your audience AND, if you’re in business, of selling to them, too.
Industries may be saturated, competition may feel fierce, but no one else has your voice, your circumstances, your experiences, your take on the world.
Though we evolve as people and as business owners, your voice is one of the only things in this world that is truly, uniquely yours.
So let’s chat about how to use your authentic voice online. Get ready to analyze your voice like a copywriter, from the way you say hello to your unique turns of phrase, so that you can then replicate it authentically online!
1) To learn about your own voice in a no-pressure way, consider using a Notes app on your phone (I love Google Keep!), or, my favorite, Notepad on your computer. In my entire life, I’ve met less than a handful of people who use Notepad on their computer and actually SAVE what they write as .txt files.
Notepad lives rent-free in our minds because it allows us to jot things down quickly and delete once we’re done, and that’s a beautiful thing to simulate when it comes to working on discovering and using your authentic voice online! If you can trick your brain into thinking that what you’re recording is impermanent and temporary, would you be 1% more honest? 5%? Try it and find out! (And don’t forget to save these, of course.)
2) A Voice Memo allows you to capture recordings of your voice, which can be helpful in “hacking” your voice. You can record a little word-magic when inspiration strikes and listen back to these recordings at your leisure. This simple trick will help you find your authentic voice and put it to use online. I also suggest capturing conversations you have with trusted friends or family members, since these are the people with whom we’re most often uncensored. Just make sure to tell them you’re recording!
Leave generic website copy behind in favor of words that share your personality and act like a BFF friendship bracelet with the Google SEO gods.
Whether writing just isn't your thing or you just need a little boost to get started, website copywriting that sounds like you and attracts the right clients is the superpower you never knew you needed.
Having a photography website that is optimized to show up in search results isn't enough: your copy needs to actually sound like YOU. Want help with that? I'm your girl.
